PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The Stanly County School System became a merged school district November 7, 1996, and is under the direction of Superintendent Dr. Samuel DePaul. The school system now serves 10,200 students and has 775 teachers. Currently, there are five elementary schools that serve K-5 students, nine schools that serve K-8 students, three middle schools that serve 6-8 grade students, and four high schools that serve 9-12 grade students. Three K-5 elementary schools, a middle school and one high school are located in Albemarle. The other elementary schools are located in towns throughout the county. Three other high schools are in the county, one to the south, one in the western area and one to the north. Two new K-8 schools opened in 2002.

When a student moves into the area, the parent and student should go to the school in the district in which they are residing and register the student with the school's principal. The principal will then contact the school previously attended and ask for a transcript of the student's records.
