Celebrating Stanly: Chamber Awards Shine Light on Community Stars
After a brief postponement due to wintry weather a few weeks prior, the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce hosted its much-anticipated Annual Meeting and Awards Night at Albemarle’s Atrium Health Magnolia Room on Thursday, March 6, and it was well worth the wait! The event marked a significant milestone, celebrating 89 years of the Chamber's dedication to fostering business growth and community development since its founding in 1936.
The evening was a vibrant tapestry of lively conversation, a delicious dinner catered by Atrium Health Stanly, and the elegant melodies of Charlotte Maness on the piano. Dr. Marietta Abernathy, president of Atrium Health Stanly, extended a warm welcome, setting a tone of optimism and community spirit. Dr. Reese Linnell followed with a heartfelt invocation, expressing gratitude for the Chamber's enduring contributions to Stanly County. Erica Church, president and CEO of the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce, took the stage to recognize the Chamber's leadership, including the newly appointed 2025 Leadership Board, with a passing of the gavel from Wil Huneycutt, immediate past Chairman, to James Baucom, incoming Chairman. Also acknowledged were the dedicated Chamber Ambassadors, whose volunteer efforts are vital to the Chamber's success. The awards portion of the evening was a highlight, beginning with Sylvia Lewis and Lisa A. Lewis presenting the 2024 Ambassador of the Year award to Rodney Myers, recognized for his "tireless efforts and dedication" to the community. Dr. John Enamait, President of Stanly Community College, presented the 2024 Small Business of the Year award to Emricci Pizzeria, owned by Dave and Jamie Emrich, praising their "warm, welcoming space" and dedication to Locust. Wil Huneycutt presented the 2024 Business of the Year award to B.R.S., Inc., based in Richfield, highlighting their commitment to both employees and the community. Joe Crapster from Duke Energy presented the 2024 Citizen of the Year award to Charles Brown, a Stanly County native recognized for his significant contributions to the region. The ceremonial passing of the gavel from Wil Huneycutt to James Baucom symbolized the Chamber's continued leadership and forward momentum. Keynote speaker Jordan Whichard, North Carolina’s Chief Deputy Secretary of Commerce, shared an inspiring vision of the state's economic growth and Stanly County's vital role in its success. The evening was a resounding success, celebrating the resilience and vibrant spirit of Stanly County's business community.
