Summer Intern
|
ALBEMARLE, NC – N.C. Cooperative Extension – Stanly County is pleased to announce the appointment
of Lily Pope as their 2026 Summer Intern. Selected through the competitive NC State Extension Summer Internship Program, Pope returns to her home county to gain professional experience in agricultural leadership and youth development. A graduate of Stanly Early College High School and current student at North Carolina State University, Pope is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. She currently maintains an impressive academic record at NCSU, where she was named to the Semester Dean’s List following the Fall 2025 term. Under the supervision of 4-H Agent, Mandy Smith-Thompson, Pope will spend her 10-week internship contributing to various Extension initiatives, with a primary emphasis on the 4-H youth development program. Her responsibilities will encompass updating the 4-H curriculum checkout system, creating a library of digital content, visiting local farms and helping to create and facilitate educational programs for youth during the summer. “I have a special interest in working with livestock and farmers, and I look forward to learning how to help producers with their specific needs,” said Pope. “As I consider a future career as an agriculture teacher or animal science professor, I’m excited to get hands-on experience running programs and teaching K-12 students through the 4-H program.” "We are excited to have Lily join our team this summer," said Stanly County Extension Director, Molly Alexi. "Her background in Animal Science and her dedication to her hometown make her a perfect fit for our mission of providing research-based information and life-changing experiences to the citizens of Stanly County."
