Help us shine a light on child abuse that is often hidden in plain sight.Children’s Advocacy Centers of North Carolina (CACNC) is working on lighting North Carolina blue in recognition National Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is observed in the United States every April, and CAC Day in North Carolina, observed April 28, 2025.
As an accredited member of CACNC and the National Children’s Alliance, the Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center is doing our part to make sure our community recognizes all of the children of Stanly County who have faced maltreatment and the incredible people who provide evidence-based services to promote healing from these traumatic experiences. We’d love to see Albemarle lit blue (the shade of blue requested for programmable lighting is: #080aef). It can be lit for CAC Day or for the full month! It would be great to light up the City of Albemarle blue…. Downtown city businesses, banks, etc. Please reach out to myself or Ashley Pritt at [email protected] for resources and so that the Butterfly House and CACNC can help to amplify your participation! |
Why Do Our Shelves Look Empty While Our Warehouse Is Full?![]() This month, we are focused on different ways to feed our neighbors in need. Imagine being a parent walking into our pantry, hoping to find enough food to feed your family for the week. You pick up a few cans of vegetables and maybe a box of crackers but struggle to find the proteins and staples needed to make a complete meal. There are plenty of certain items, but many essentials are missing.
Meanwhile, if you step into our warehouse, it looks packed. That’s because much of our food comes from local grocery stores and Second Harvest in bulk quantities on pallets filled with thousands of the same item. For example, we currently have 300 cases of Goldfish totaling 16,800 individual packets. While these donations are helpful, they don’t always provide the variety needed to create well-balanced meals. Now, take a look at our donation shelves. They are much more sparse. When individuals donate food, it goes straight to the pantry for immediate use. Any extra gets stored in the warehouse, but these donations don’t come in the same bulk quantities. While we appreciate ALL donations, we often will ask for specific items. A family can’t make meals from limited ingredients. Thoughtful donations like canned proteins, hearty soups, and pasta help us provide well-rounded meals for families. Your generosity makes a difference. Donating wisely, you help fill the gaps on our shelves and in our community. We hope you gather friends and family to enjoy participating in one of our multiple food drives listed below. We encourage you to tour our Assistance Center. Thank you for your support! |
